Ground Yourself and Release Tension

April 20 to May 20 - Zodiac Sign: Taurus - Element: Earth - Color: Red

When I first started meditation, my goal was to have an out of body experience. I was searching for some ethereal answer from outside of myself. Straining mentally to reach out into the outer reaches of the cosmos and by doing so, achieve a greater understanding of some unknown and mysterious Universal Law. I smile when I think of those days. I now know that all the answers I need have been hardwired within my DNA. It wasn't until I started grounding myself that the answers I so desperately wanted started to emerge. What a beautiful and elegant creation we are, sublimely bathed in the experience of being human. I have learned to consider sacred the organic vessel which houses the soul. Meditation helps me remember who I am.

When I look around, I see so many people treating their bodies like some undeserving garbage dump. My focus has always been on teaching people how to eat a cleaner greener diet. But that’s only one part of the equation. To properly digest food we need to focus on calming our stressed body. I have an Aunt who recently passed away peacefully at the age of 99. A few years back I asked her to what she attributed her longevity and good health. Her answer was quick and to the point, "keep a garden." She explained that something about digging and placing her hands in the warm soil kept her connected to the Earth. I have to agree, nothing is as grounding as feeling the moist warm soil with your hands or feet. I remember as a child loving to walk barefoot in my dad's garden. Feeling the warm soil between my toes while he worked planting and weeding. The joy of the beautiful meals my mother would prepare from the harvest. The prayer of gratitude we would say before each meal. So few of us live our lives this way anymore. Meditation is a way of finding that place of total peace and acceptance we all have at our core. No matter what our childhood experience might have been it’s there for us all.

Sometimes in our busy modern lives we lose sight of the fact that we are of this earth. When we plant a seed it germinates in the fertile darkness of the one true mother of us all. Seeds must be planted and given time to germinate before they put forth shoots that only later push through the ground for all to see. Soil gives the seed the minerals it needs to sprout, warm rain coaxes the seed out of the ground. Only then can the sprout start to reach for the sunlight which will give it the vitamins it needs to survive and reach its full potential. Like the seed in the fertile earth, we are no different. Throughout the millennia of time, humankind cleverly adapts and moves on, but the basic rules of nature never has and never will change. Life is, has been, and always will be a most precious thing.

Recently science has shown us that the benefits of meditation are grounded (no pun intended) in scientific fact. In 1952 physicist Winfried Otto Schumann mathematically showed the world it’s heartbeat. Now known as Schumann Wave Frequencies. These frequencies are like the sound of our mothers heartbeat when we were in her womb. Schumann Resonance is an established scientific fact, however, there are very few scientists who are aware of the importance of this frequency. This is proven by all of the disruptive Electro Magnetic Frequencies (EMF’s) being created in our world. Schumann wave frequencies are a tuning fork for life. We are hardwired to this frequency. Meditation helps us re-member our connection to the all.

The American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), has studied Schumann waves extensively and have recognized the importance of these waves for human health. Space shuttles, leaving our atmosphere, are equipped with artificial Schumann wave generators to simulate the natural electromagnetic environment of the earth. Science has proven if astronauts wish to remain healthy they must be grounded to earth’s frequencies. Yet here on earth we are so stressed by our daily modern life, and man-created frequencies, we forget to breathe and quite often are not grounded. When I walked in my fathers garden barefoot as a child I didn’t know the science, I just knew how good it felt and how good it made me feel.

Now when I meditate I not only connect with a higher wisdom, but I also ground myself to the center of the Earth's core. Sun and rain will manifest nothing if the seed is not rooted in the soil. Never has there been a time when physical comforts are easier, yet never have we been more disconnected from our electromagnetically charged world. There is an ancient Chinese teaching which states that Man needs two environmental signals: the YANG (masculine or God energy) signal from above and the YIN (feminine or earth energy) signal from below. This description fits the relatively strong signal of the Schumann wave surrounding our planet being YANG and the weaker geomagnetic waves coming from below, from within the planet, being the YIN signal. Chinese teachings state that to achieve perfect health, both signals must be in balance. Science and quantum physics have proven that ancient belief to be correct. There is no escaping our modern world, all we can do is the best we can. It's all vibratory energy. John Keely wrote in 1893, "There is no dividing of matter and force into two distinct terms, as they both are one. Force is liberated matter. Matter is force in bondage."

Quiet your mind. Ground. Breathe. Center. Draw in the energy that surrounds us all. When your mind wanders — and it will — gently draw your thoughts back to your breathing. Meditation is a practice not a destination. Meditation is a way of connecting to a place where answers are waiting for you to discover. In spring and the earth is coming to life again. What better time to do the same for yourself. Wishing you peace, love and abundance.
