Karyn is a Chicago native whose younger years were both the antithesis and catalyst for her path to wellness and health. Back then, her diet consisted mostly of meat, sugar and fried foods and she suffered from low energy, constant illness and numerous ailments. When Karyn’s mother sought alternative healing in addition to traditional treatments, Karyn discovered juicing and adopted a vegetarian diet. She felt almost immediate relief from the ailments that had plagued her.
Karyn transitioned from vegetarian to vegan in the late 70’s. Soon after, she discovered Dr. Ann Wigmore and Viktoras Kulvinskas, modern raw food pioneers, and learned about raw foods and detoxification which would become the pillars of her health. Fully embracing the raw foods lifestyle, Karyn started a small business in Evanston, Illinois growing sprouts and juicing wheatgrass in a greenhouse. She later opened her first raw-restaurant, Karyn's Fresh Corner, which was a thriving success. She now also runs two vegan restaurants, Karyn's Cooked and Karyn's On Green.
Karyn Calabrese declares “she is not special”. Yet it is undeniable, she has a special gift. She has learned to listen to the knowledge innate within herself and become a leading holistic healer and teacher. She has created an all-encompassing environment of food, health, guidance and care where we can all participate in our own well being.
