SPROUTMAN'S BASIC GREEN JUICE / Sproutman's 7-Day Just Juice Diet
This green juice recipe is used extensively in the 7-Day Just Juice Diet. You can easily double it to make your recommended daily quart (1 liter). The parsley and kale provide strong flavors, but the celery and lemon mellow the intensity. Most of the other green juice recipes in this section expand on this general formula. Use the milder recipes that follow if the flavor of this basic juice is too strong for you. However, it would be good to develop a taste for these greens as they’re your best medicine.
4 stalks celery
15 to 20 sprigs parsley
15 stalks lacinato kale
2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) freshly squeezed lemon juice (about ½ lemon)
Juice half the celery, then half the parsley, then half the kale. Repeat in this order with the remaining vegetables. Stir in the lemon juice.
Spicy Green Juice: Spice up the basic recipe with the addition of 1 to 2 teaspoons (5 to 10 milliliters) of reduced-sodium tamari, half a clove of fresh garlic, or ½ inch (10 millimeters) of fresh ginger. Add more to taste if desired.
Mild Green Juice: If Basic Green Juice is too “green” tasting for you, add 1 to 2 cucumbers. Makes about 2½ cups (625 milliliters).
